CALL FOR POSTER PRESENTATION ABSTRACTS
The conference planning committee invites you to develop and submit an abstract to be considered for poster presentation at the WLN Fall Conference, November 7, 2026 at Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. All accepted posters will be published on the WLN website. If you are unable to attend the conference in person, you may opt to present your poster virtually. See Submission Guidelines and FAQs at the end of this document for all submission and presentation details.
The WLN encourages all nurses in academia, practice, and those attending nursing graduate and undergraduate programs to develop a scholarly persona and reputation by presenting information or research through dissemination provided by poster presentations.
Posters will be considered for a variety of topics relating to the goals identified in the strategic plan of the WLN including “Our Mission” and “Who We Are”:

WHO WE ARE
We are nurses, nursing students, agencies and individuals interested in fostering the development and improvement of nursing care in a collaborative health care environment.
Posters may be presented using one of the following general categories:
- Nursing Research
- Case Presentation, EBP, or QI
- Informational
NURSING RESEARCH
Research abstracts describe original research, evidence based practice projects, or quality improvement projects.
ABSTRACT GENERAL FORMAT
- Not to exceed 350 words
- 12-point font size
- Title and author included, indicate lead author with contact email for the poster
BODY OF ABSTRACT
(use these headings)
- Background (brief description of what is known about research question or what prompted you to do EBP or QI project)
- Aims (purpose of study or purpose of the EBP or QI project)
- Methods (design/study protocol or describe steps to EBP or QI project)
- Results (synopsis of data)
- Conclusions (summary of findings)
- Clinical or Nursing Educational Implications (including relevance to nursing educational practice)
Case Presentation, EBP, or Quality Improvement
Posters of case presentations are an analysis of a particular case used as a basis for drawing conclusions in similar situations. Classroom, pedagogical, clinical or teaching/learning strategies are included in this category. EBP or Quality Improvement projects are acceptable posters from the healthcare setting.

INFORMATIONAL
Informational posters are designed for the benefit of imparting knowledge concerning a topic of interest.
ABSTRACT GENERAL FORMAT
- Not to exceed 350 words
- 12-point font size
- Title & author included, indicate lead author with contact email for the poster.
BODY OF ABSTRACT
(use these headings)
- Background
- Purpose
- Description of topic (may include a literature review)
- Implications (including relevance to nursing educational practice)
- Include references following the body of your abstract as applicable.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
- Select a general category for the poster topic and follow the associated guidelines for the category.
- Submit your abstract via the “2026 Fall Conference website” and click on the banner “Call for Abstracts”. Submit both the poster presentation form and upload the abstract for the poster via the website. *Form and abstract submission is at the bottom of this webpage - scroll down to end.
- Primary authors will be notified by the WLN of acceptance of the poster.
- Authors must be a member of WLN at the time of the conference.
- Once you receive notification of acceptance of the poster, register for the poster presentation within the Spring Conference Poster Registration: Poster Abstracts. Registration and payment for your poster presentation is required before posters will be presented both virtually and in person (if you are attending).
- You will be contacted by Dr. Catherine Schmitt, WLN Poster Presentation Coordinator for directions and requirements for the actual poster (both virtual and in person posters)
- All abstract submissions must be received by October 26, 2026 for printing in the event program. We will accept submissions through November 1, however they will not be published in the program.

**Virtual posters require a voice over**
- In power point, use the slide record feature to audio tape your presentation voice over, minimum 10 min and max 20 minutes in length.
FAQs
Who can submit a poster? You (or you and a team). One of the authors must be a member of WLN at the time of the conference (membership is easily accessed through the conference registration website).
Is there a special format that I must use to write my abstract? Yes. See the guidelines.
What happens if my poster is accepted for a poster presentation? Dr. Catherine Schmitt will review all abstracts for posters. You will be contacted by Dr. Schmitt after review of the abstract regarding acceptance of the poster. Any further questions will be clarified between the author and Dr. Schmitt following acceptance re: requirements for poster size, electronic formatting, etc.
Payment for poster presentations and registration for the conference is required following acceptance of poster presentation. For in person presentations, a minimum of one author (s) of posters will display a poster at the conference.
If poster presentation is virtual only (author is unable to attend in person), payment for the poster presentation is due at the time of acceptance of the poster. At least one person on the poster presentation must be a member of the WLN.
How will the poster be displayed? Posters will be displayed using easels provided by the WLN. You must attach your poster to a firm surface (foam board works well). All posters will also be displayed electronically within the WLN website. An electronic version of the final poster is required. Abstracts will be included with the electronic display of each poster.
All posters are encouraged to have at least one presenter registered and present at the conference. Virtual poster presentations are optional if presenters are unable to attend the conference.
What is the submission deadline?
- Abstracts must be received by October 26, 2026 to be printed in the event program. We will accept abstracts through November 1, however they won't be printed in the event program
- Completed posters (electronic formats) must be submitted by November 1, 2026 to [email protected]

$160.00 - WLN Member: Conference & Poster Registration - Attend conference either in person or virtually
$220.00 - Non WLN Member: Non-member conference & poster presentation. Choose this if you will be attending the conference in person or virtually. Registration includes one-year WLN Membership
$50.00 - WLN MEMBER: Virtual poster presentation - choose this if you want to present a poster but will NOT be attending the conference in person or virtually.
$115.00 - Non WLN Member: Virtual poster presentation only - choose this if you want to present a virtual poster but will NOT be attending the conference in person or virtually. Registration includes one-year WLN membership.
